studio laptop / bsod update / driver ? (v2.0)

This evening I resolved the unexplained driver issue that the studio laptop Device Manager has been shouting about.

Apparently it was aย Conexant D330,HDA,MDC,v.92 Modem Driver, for a…

Yep…

For a 56k modem.

Anyway, I was clearing boxes out of the studio (not sure why, when I’m probably going to move house again, in the next four months), when I came across my box of drivers.

The sixth disc of drivers that I tried reinstalled the troublesome rogue and Device Manager has now stopped shouting at me and settled down.

NoError

So, the studio laptop seems to have stopped getting BSODs (because I removed 90% of its content).

And I’ve resolved the drivers error.

Yay!

I have also just patched CentOS, so now I have to perform a restart on web and email services.

But you won’t notice this, because I’m being cunning.

OK, cunning is good, but what’s happened to your other (main) blog?
    It’s gone all maudlin.
    Again.

I had foals* when you said ‘what’s happened to your other (main) blog?’ because at 7am (you commented at 7.24am) I migrated it to a new server. But nothing had happened, it’s still there, being its usual maudlin self ๐Ÿ™‚ I have just put a post on it just for you and your feed reader (but feed readers can take hours to update).

But I am far far far from maudlin. I am busy as fuck (which is good) and having a great time (which is good) and working lots (which is good) . Of course, if you dipped your toe in to the waters of The Twitter, you would see/know/understand these things but… stop looking at me like that. No really. Stop. It’s a bit scary ๐Ÿ™‚

      *like kittens only more troublesome

      • Masher says:

Oh, the problem wasn’t with the feeder. The site was just showing a white page with some text saying that you had decided to remove your blog to protect others… or something.
It was dated October last year though, so I guessed you hadn’t actually taken it down, but rather had fucked up somewhere ๐Ÿ˜‰
        Glad to see it’s back.

Actually, I am on Twitter now and I have also set up a Facebook page.

        As if.

        • Whoops! says:

Oooh, I wish I’d had that description sooner!

          *gives you the face*

That means that index.php didn’t overwrite a redundant index.htm that was in the root of the /blog directory. I have removed that file (index.htm) – just last night.

Anyway, this morning I migrated ‘/’ and ‘/blog’ from Arizona to a server in Rugby, so I would still be interested in knowing if the post for your reader in /blog shows up.

And you had (?) a Twitter profile. Has it gone away? I can’t speak about Facebook. No, really, I can’t.

  2. Masher says:

    I repeat: “As if.”

“Server in Rugby”? That’ll be under your stairs then.

Yup, my reader is now showing both the last two posts.
So, can you now stop fiddling with it? Please.

    • Whoops! says:

Garden shed, mate. It’s in the garden shed.

Stop fiddling? Would you? Or if this was an amateur radio thing, would you want to take everything apart to find out what the problem is, before fixing it and putting it all back together again?

I think we both know the answer to that
