My Synology NAS started beeping at me recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I logged on and the control panel told me that one of the two (mirrored) hard disks had failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No problem. Everything was mirrored on the other hard disk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But just to be safe I backed up the 1.75TB of data to an external USB drive and then shut the NAS down to save wear and tear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then I ordered a new Synology NAS chassis, but this time I\u2019m going for a four-bay unit, a DS418.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To complete the new NAS build, I\u2019ve ordered four 2TB drives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As soon as the NAS and drives have arrived I\u2019ll put them together and get the NAS up and running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then I\u2019ll build the profiles that I use, then copy the backed-up data from the EDD and that should be it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
